Achievements. Local Action.
Since July 2008 fourteen taster events in conflict resolution have been designed and delivered by the truce graduates to members of the local community. These have been held at a variety of places, including Newham Children’s Rights, the Town Hall in Newham and a Time 2 Change youth conference at Community Links. These events are peer led, and cover conflict triggers, underlying anger, communication, listening skills and other topics in interactive manner.
A ‘Breaking Boundaries’ event was held at Stratford Town Hall, led by the young people and attended by local Councillors and members of the community.
Truce graduates have been given the opportunity to deliver conflict resolution programmes to local school children alongside education team staff at Conflict and Change. So far truce graduates have facilitated on programmes in ‘Peer Mediation’, ‘Big Up Cool Down’ and ‘Valuing Each Other’ and on 14 occasions at a variety of Newham schools, including Hartley primary school, Colgrave primary school, Lister Secondary School, Langdon Secondary School and St Bonaventure school.
