The 'Volunteering England Gold Award' is the only national student volunteering award that recognises Achievement, Dedication and Leadership within Higher Education. Winners were presented with their award at the annual City University London Student Impact Awards on Wednesday, April 4 2012.
As you can imagine, we are extremely proud and happy for Virginia, over the past two years she has taken part in many varied volunteering opportunities, from delivery of conflict resolution workshops in primary and secondary schools in Newham, to presenting at the City Hall about the importance of locally led peacebuilding.
Congratulations Virginia, well deserved award!!
- May 2012Narjas talks about Truce at Oxford Peace Conference! LESS
- The Second Rotary Peace Conference was held at the Said Business School in Oxford, and the audience was very pleased to welcome Narjas Zatat from our Truce 20/20 project.
MORE/>
The subject was " Peace - Home and Away" and so Narjas could speak about about the training programmes of Truce, which she did very clearly. Her lively talk brought many questions afterwards, and she was invited to hear about the Rotary Peace Fellow programme, which offers bursaries for a master’s degree in international relations, public administration, sustainable development, peace studies, or conflict resolution.
Rotarians had sent their best wishes and appreciation to the work of Truce 20/20, which we are very grateful for and happy about.

When an exciting opportunity to deliver a workshop, for one of Conflict and Change's partner organisations, came up this week, our Fatma Omar jumped at the opportunity.
The MOREworkshop was an introduction to conflict resolution and valuing diversity, and was delivered by Fatma and
Selina Larsen during a residential event in Dorset for ARSP volunteers, from Germany and Poland, working in England.
Fatma took this opportunity to really push herself in facilitation, and she sure did shine. She delivered with confidence and finesse, even on exercises that she'd not herself delivered before. Feedback from the group showed appreciation for Fatma's style and input, and reflected positively on the deep discussions and challenging topics that had been covered. It was a sterling piece of work that showed Fatma's dedication to the project, and one that she should be proud of.
- Apr 2012Hilmyia on her facilitation experience... LESS
- Having already done a taster session for new truce recruits, late February I went into St Winfride’s school with Natalie to support her with facilitating two of the valuing each other sessions. MORE
I wanted to do this because I’ve always been interested in teaching young children. I also wanted to boost my confidence and felt being in a class room of almost 30 children would definitely be a challenge. I’m pleased to say that I did support the session and helped the students think about different ways of dealing with anger.
I also contributed by interviewing three students about how the sessions have changed their everyday ways of dealing with conflict.
I’m happy to say that everything has been going well so far and since graduating from Truce I would like to carry on supporting work in school and sharing the knowledge I have gained. I have agreed to co-facilitate with Natalie at another primary school this month and I am glad to be part of Truce and that these opportunities have come my way. Excellent!!!
